Abstract

This study investigates the state of scientific research in accounting at the University of Benghazi, focusing on the perspectives of faculty members and postgraduate students within the Faculty of Economics. The research aims to identify the challenges hindering scientific research and to propose strategies for its development. Utilizing a descriptive and inferential approach, data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to the study population. The findings reveal a significant lack of clarity regarding academic promotion requirements and highlight an urgent need for enhanced material and moral incentives. Furthermore, the study identifies critical obstacles, such as insufficient financial support and a lack of institutional encouragement, which prevent the realization of academic research potential. Based on these results, the study provides actionable recommendations, including the establishment of transparent academic promotion criteria, fostering collaboration with civil society organizations to support university-based research, and implementing training workshops to promote the importance of scientific research within the community. Additionally, the study emphasizes the need for streamlining administrative and financial procedures for research projects and leveraging the expertise of leading institutions in the field to improve the quality and application of scientific research in Libya.
