Abstract

This study examines the complex relationship between the principle of self-determination and state sovereignty, focusing on international intervention and its profound implications for the Libyan state. It analyzes how domestic and external factors intersect during political transitions and popular uprisings, challenging traditional concepts of sovereignty. The research explores the theoretical frameworks of state sovereignty and the legal mechanisms governing self-determination, highlighting the tension between popular demands and the preservation of national territorial integrity. Furthermore, the study addresses the legal stance of international law regarding state compliance with international obligations, concluding that internal instability and foreign interventions severely undermine national sovereignty and complicate democratic transitions.
