Abstract

This study seeks to analyze the role of political discourse in shaping public opinion and explore the methods and strategies employed by political actors to influence individuals' beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. The findings reveal that political discourse possesses high persuasive power, stemming from a combination of rhetorical elements, verbal evidence, metaphors, connotations, and puns, while considering the pragmatic context and the nature of the recipient. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that the effectiveness of the discourse is influenced by the sender's ability to establish personal communication, perceive the components of persuasion, and capitalize on audience reactions. The reciprocal relationship between discourse and public opinion shows that the latter is not a static entity but rather a dynamic product of the interaction between political messages and the audience's expectations and ideologies, making it susceptible to shaping and direction, while simultaneously capable of influencing the discourse’s own trajectories. The study emphasizes that political discourse which neglects practical aspects and relies solely on rhetorical embellishments loses its efficacy. Based on these results, the study recommends developing the capabilities of political discourse producers, enhancing the public's critical awareness, and employing integrated linguistic and communicative strategies to achieve a balance between rhetorical appeal and practical content, ensuring a positive impact of public opinion on democratic processes and decision-making.
